New joints deserve the right guard
After repointing, a sealer can keep rain out of joints. The right kind lets damp air escape as it dries. That one-way flow is the whole point. Brick walls need to breathe.
Good sealers soak in. They line the pores and turn rain away. They leave no film on the face. From the walk, the wall looks the same.
What never goes on brick
Paint and thick coats trap water in the wall. Water still gets in through small cracks. Then it cannot get out. Winter frost does its harm where you cannot see it. On soft old brick, faces pop off in sheets.
Mind the timing
Sealer goes on after new mortar dries. That takes a few weeks, based on weather. Seal too soon and you lock damp in the joints. We book the sealer as a second trip so mortar gets its full dry time.
